Hobbies: Sports, Music, Enjoying the great outdoors.
What's on this blog? Influenced by life in Humboldt County, Hawaii, East Asia, and now Eastern Washington; these are my thoughts, interests, and amusements.
Make sure and check out my friends sites and some of my favorite music which I'm always adding to.
Is anyone else scared that our government can tax specific people on top of normal taxes, remove CEO’s from private businesses, and intervene in our ‘free market’ in any way they deem necessary?
If things continue on this way I might have to start wearing green tights and traipse around in the woods.
As I anticipate the arrival of our little boy I was reminded today of how often his diaper will need to be changed. Thankfully we use the best diapers on the planet!
This morning my two year old was pretending to write out a grocery list and I had a weird thought.
How long before we don’t write anymore?
I do my large volume handwriting on post-it notes which are scattered across my desk. On a very rare occasion that I write a check I struggle with remembering the proper cursive that I used to write all my school papers with. Everything else is typed out, digitally stored, and virtually non-existent in reality. It’s only a matter of time before typing becomes obsolete as well. With multi-touch technology and a push for better voice recognition software, all you’ll eventually have to do to send an email is talk and wave your hand.
I’m still waiting for hover cars but in the meantime the future that 80’s sci-fi envisioned is quickly passing by.
I mentioned (two posts ago) about a documentary that Jess and I recently watched worth checking out. For those of you who have already discovered the wonder of Hulu.com I’d like to reccomend another site called snagfilms.com. They’ve got several hundred documentaries on all sorts of subjects, all for free.
I love the internet.
P.S. For those of you outside the US that can’t watch content on these sites I’ve got one word for you. Proxy.
We’re mixing it up this week with our youth ministry and having an 80’s Wii Bowling Tournament.
We’ll have 8 Nintendo Wii’s set up with teams of 2 going head to head. Jess and I found some sweet prizes to give out to the winning bowling teams as well as the winning 80’s outfits. Since none of our students were alive in the 80’s I posted this video on our student ministry website so they can get some ideas.
Jess and I watched an interesting documentary on Hulu.com this weekend called ‘Kicking It‘. It’s about an event called the “Homeless World Cup” which is an international soccer tournament made up of teams of homeless people. I know, it sounds bizarre and maybe even a little funny. It ended up being a fascinating study of the different definitions and causes of homelessness around the world. It’s definitely worth watching.
After a long winter (the 3rd snowiest on record) the first day of Spring felt like it today. The Fouche family spent some time in the backyard and we all enjoyed the 65 degree weather which feels scorching considering it was 3 degrees just a couple of weeks ago.
BBQ’s, backyard fires, and yard work are sure to ensue.
The last 2 plus years have been quite an adventure in Fatherhood as I’ve seen my son go from just eating, pooping, and sleeping to now being able to have a basic conversation as well as a low grade addiction to cars and trucks. One of the fascinating things is to see him become more self-aware.
The latest example of this ties into our innate desire to be able to poop in peace. A few weeks ago Jude’s desire to accomplish this on his own became known. He now quietly sneaks out of view and if I approach him will say, “I’m poopin poppa.” If I don’t get out of view than he’ll ask me not to look or to go away.
Hopefully the next step is him using the toilet while reading the newspaper.
We’re now in that window where the little one could be born any day. It’s a crazy thought that literally in a matter of hours/days we’ll be adding a member to our family.
Just as crazy is the fact that this one will be born at home. Yeah, I know, I used to think that only weird hippies had kids at home, but after we had Jude I got to thinking that everything we did at the hospital we could do at home. This way we can sleep in our own bed, watch the NCAA tourney eat our own food, etc. Jess is a champion and goes without pain meds or other interventions so doing the home birth thing should be awesome.
On a similar but separate note congratulations to my homey Nate and his wife Tash on the birth of their baby girl last week! I guess when your friends start having babies that’s another sign of adulthood.
