Woke with this song in my head:
Summer Movies
Watch: The Dark Night
Much, much, better than I thought it would be! I was skeptical because typically there is a fall off in any sequel let alone the fact that this sequel is actually a remake. I doubted that Heath Ledger could top Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker but because he took a different angle, he pulled it off amazingly. While you can’t get around the typical story of good guy gets beat down early and comes back to win in the end - this movie has some interesting writing that tweaks it just enough to make it feel unique.
See it in the theater.
Don’t Watch: The X Files
I loved the TV series, liked the first movie and was glad I didn’t have to pay to see the new one. While the TV series jumped back and forth between alien conspiracy and regular old crime drama, I didn’t want to see a regular old crime drama on the big screen. Especially after 10 years. I can think of a handful of CSI episodes that would have been more interesting to watch.
Watch it on an airplane if you can’t sleep.
Whirlwind
We are back home in Washington (still kind of weird to say that) after a busy, action packed time in Nor-Cal. We had a great time seeing family and friends although we weren’t able to catch up with everyone as much as we’d like - two wedding, and 5 days at camp took a big chunk out of our time.
I wasn’t sure how I would feel going to Humboldt for just a visit. Would I realize how much I missed it or feel even more certain we made the right decision? While without a doubt I miss my family and many good friends and the area is uniquely beautiful, I definitely feel like Eastern Washington is my home.
My beautiful wife will most certainly be posting pictures of our time down south on the family blog and I’ll try to throw up a few on my space here soon as well.
Camp is for the Campers
We are back from an awesome week at Triumphant Life Camp. It was a great time for a lot of reasons.
In no particular order:
1. We shared a trailer with our friends Dave and Anna
2. I got to hang out with some of my favorite people from my college ministry days
3. I spoke for 5 days straight which was extremely stretching and challenging
4. Jess and I realized that Jude is a nature baby and would happily play outside all day long
5. I discovered a new species of bug that has the body of a giant ant, 8 legs, and two tentacles with suction cups that it uses to climb
Crazy Cool
Things will be both crazy and cool this week with church/summer camp/wedding madness! Blogging will be nil. I’ll make sure and give you the total run-down as soon as possible.
Peace.
It’s crazy to think…
…what my life would look like without my faith in the God who created heaven and earth. Seriously…I can’t imagine it.
Change of weather
I’m gearing up for our upcoming visit to my homeland and the slight change in weather that it will bring. Can you guess which forecast is Eureka, CA?

It’s short, it’s simple, it’s free.
5 Rocking Years!
Jess and I just celebrated 5 years of marriage this past week! Being a married dude has only gotten better with the years and of course it helps being married to pretty much the hottest woman ever created.
For our celebration, we spent 2 nights on Whidbey Island over on the coast. Whidbey is a long narrow island with amazing views of the Puget Sound, and the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. We were blessed by some friends who let us stay in their beach house which was about 30 feet from the waters edge. Jess has posted some pics of the weekend here.
Love it
I love summer.
I’ll admit the long winter days tend to get me down a bit but as soon as summer comes I’m stoked. These last weeks have been awesome and I haven’t been outdoors this much since I lived in Hawaii. Most nights we’re all outside in the backyard eating, playing, laying in the grass, and just enjoying the blessing of summer.
Some favs of this time of year:
Ice cold sun tea
Only wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops everyday
Freshly grilled meat
Playing guitar on the lawn
Smores around the fire pit
