Otis Orchards

In an effort to remain transparent I thought I would inform the readers of my blog about our location change. My blog was originally titled ‘Humboldt Happenings’ but upon moving to Liberty Lake last year I changed the name to its current one. Most of you know we just moved across the highway into our new home this last weekend. This new neighborhood (which feels much like Ferndale minus the cows, for you Humboldt folk) is called Otis Orchards. I won’t however be changing my blog title due to the fact that we’re still practically in Liberty Lake and it took me forever to pick the current name which kind of has a double meaning anyhow.

If you even care.

In other news, you need to check out the coolest photo shoot ever, that our friends Joel and Sarah did recently in China.

Crazay!

We’ve officially become homeowners! We closed the deal on Thursday and left apartment living/renting behind on Friday. Thanks to help from our friends and family we trucked our stuff over in slightly rainy conditions on Friday afternoon and have spent the last few days (with a lot of help from Jessica’s parents) unpacking. I mowed my first lawn in years on Saturday and we’ve spent some time outdoors in the yard pulling weeds and tidying things up.

Sometime in the next week I’ll be putting up a little home tour vid on the blog(s).

Delusional?

I’ll preface the posting of the video below with, I’m still very undecided on how I’m going to vote come November. Saying that, I have to wonder how delusional some Obama supporters are after watching this video.

I’d like to see world peace, free beer, and the 49ers win the Super Bowl.

Obama!

Closing Day

Wow, this week has been super busy!

My brother Ben flew in from Cambodia via Seattle this last weekend and we’ve had a great time hanging out with him and at the same time been busy with last minute house stuff. Today is closing day on the house and we’ll start to move in tonight with the big move happening tomorrow afternoon. Crazy!

After we get settled I’ll be sure to put up a little virtual home tour.

I think it was a bad burrito?

ATHENS, Greece (AP) - A 9-year-old girl who went to hospital in central Greece suffering from stomach pains was found to be carrying her embryonic twin, doctors said Thursday.

Doctors at Larissa General Hospital examined the girl and surgically removed a growth they later discovered was an embryo about six centimeters (more than two inches) long.

“They could see on the right side that her belly was swollen, but they couldn’t suspect that this tumor would hide an embryo,” hospital director Iakovos Brouskelis said.

The girl has made a full recovery, he said.

Andreas Markou, head of the hospital’s pediatric department, said the embryo was a formed fetus with a head, hair and eyes, but no brain or umbilical cord.

Markou said cases where one of a set of twins absorbs the other in the womb occurs in one of 500,000 live births.

The girl’s family did not want to be identified, hospital officials said.

Flashback

My friend Dave tossed me a link today of a great blog post about toy commercials from the 80’s. The crazy thing was I remembered all of them but one. Ah, how I miss the days of starting my Saturday out glued to the tube. Check out the commercials here.

You can also see the trailer for my favorite childhood cartoon from the late 80’s here.

Why stop there. Go ahead and check out one of my favorite obscure TV shows from the 80’s here.

Ugh

Been battling the flu the last couple of days. Not much to write about other than a few movies I’ve watched and the copious amount of liquids I’ve consumed. Hopefully I’m well enough to enjoy the 80 degree weather predicted for later this week.

Phew

It’s Thursday and I’ve already put in 54 hours of work this week…but it was well worth it.

Our big concert in the park hit a snag yesterday when I woke up to rain. Around 10 AM the rain subsided and we had a decision to make. Set-up in the park and hope it doesn’t rain anymore or make a last minute venue change after a month of promotion and ensure that we actually have a concert. We decided to cut our attendance losses and move the concert indoors, hoping that we could get the word out to enough people and get a phone tree going.

After delaying the start time almost a half-hour, we started the concert to a nearly full house and the whole night went off without a hitch. Having never run sound for a multiple band concert I learned a ton and had a blast, pushing the system to it’s bass thumping limit. Both bands were amazing and the boys from Shachah were some of the coolest I’ve hung with in a while. If you ever have a chance to see them live I highly recommend them. We’re already planning for our next concert for late August or early September.

Concert

Tomorrow night is going to be cra-zy!
I’m putting on my first concert tomorrow night - a local band called Below Thee Above will open for a band from So-Cal called Shachah. This is a big community event for all of the students in Liberty Lake and it will be taking place in a park right smack dab in the middle of town. It’s been a bit stressful but once the music is pumping it should be a rocking time.
