Give Me Liberty

Tomorrow morning we load up our moving van, clean the house, and spend our last day as residents of Humboldt County. As internet access will be limited for several days (as well as the busyness of moving) blogging will be sparse. Most likely I’ll have some pictures of our new pad in Liberty Lake, WA posted by the end of next week.

I’m thirsty!

I had an interesting dream last night.
In my dream I was at someone’s house that I didn’t know. A relative of this person walked in (a guy) and started sharing about all of his life problems. His marriage was falling apart, he hated his job, and nothing in his life seemed to bring satisfaction for more than a short period of time. I sat on the couch listening to him describe all of his problems, the whole time thinking that this sounds very familiar. I mean, how many people work so hard for something, thinking that if they only get a house, car, spouse, job, money - fill in the blank – than they’ll finally be happy. Only to have that happiness last a short time and still have the same thirst –unfulfilled- pop back up.

As my dream continued I asked the man, “Would you describe this discontent in your life as something similar to a thirst?” He reluctantly nodded. I then shared how he’s not alone in what he’s feeling. “Every one of us has deep desires that we strive to quench by a variety of things. Some of us quench most of them by getting married, making money, gaining power or status, buying a new house or whatever. Often times though that’s not enough and there is still a deep thirst that doesn’t seem to get quenched.”

“The reality of life is this; we only have a desire for something if that desire can be filled. If there weren’t such a thing as water you wouldn’t thirst for it. If there weren’t such a thing as food you wouldn’t be hungry. Every desire has a fulfillment. Every thirst has something that can quench it.” I then asked the man this question:” If you haven’t found something in this world that can quench your deepest thirst, then the most logical conclusion is that what you’re looking for isn’t in this world.” I went on to tell him about my faith and relationship with God which has been the only thing I’ve found to quench the deepest sense of meaning and belonging in my life.

The whole dream was interesting to me on a couple of levels. I almost never remember word for word what I say in a dream, let alone have a real conversation. Also, I guess you would call this ‘witnessing,’ which is not something I can ever recall dreaming about. Anyways, I don’t know why I felt like sharing this other than at the end of my dream, what I had shared with the man seemed to resonate in his heart and it definitely resonated with me when I woke up this morning.

Woah

It’s hard to believe this is our last week here! It always takes me a bit to realize change.
For instance, the first time I went to China it wasn’t until a few days there that it hit me.
“I’m in China! I used to think if I dug long enough I’d get here and here I am… minus the digging.”

In other news if anyone wants to help load up the moving truck and clean our house this Saturday give me a shout.

One of the things that was going to be tough about moving is leaving the incredible view we have from our duplex. From our lanai we overlook the bay and the pacific ocean (see the pic at the top of our family blog). Just yesterday we had some awesome storm surf that you could see crashing against the jetty - pretty cool.

We already had a place we were set to move into about 15 minutes from our new church when we got a phone call this week about a place that had just opened up about a half mile from the church. After hearing about the location we jumped on it.

The New Digs
While we won't be looking out over the ocean, we will be looking out over the lake. We got the God hook-up for sure!

P.S. This lake apparently freezes over during the winter. I'll be sure to post pics of my best Hans Brinker impersonation.

38-16-2

I had a wierd dream last night.
I dreamt I was back at school and was trying to remember my locker combo. I’ve actually had this dream before and of course can never remember the number. The wierd part is that I remembered it. Not only did I remember it but I woke up and knew that the number was for real - it’s the actual number. I haven’t used that combo for over 10 years, yet I know without a doubt that 38-16-2 is the number.

Could this mean something? If there are any interpreters of dreams out there give me a holla.

Arrgh!

I finally broke down after ump-teen requests and joined another social-networking site. For those of you with facebook I can now be your ‘friend’. I will admit that it’s a zillion times better and seems to be more mature (if that’s possible) than MySpace. Will it eventually be another useless waste of time with no more function than the antiquated email? Only time will tell I guess. In the meantime I will be writing on walls, updating my status, and tagging pictures. You know what I mean.

Did you know?

Amazon.com just started (it’s still in Beta) an Mp3 download service that is cheaper than iTunes and without DRM. Yes!
This could break up iTunes communist like hold on the legal downloading industry.

Music to check

I’m about 2 years behind in updating my music links (on the right sidebar) but also realize if I were to put every band I like, you’d be doing a heck of a lot of scrolling. No one really likes to scroll for more than a second or two.
With that to say you should check out the two that I just added.

Synthar is a band that my friend Joel is a part of and if you are a fan of music by the likes of DNTEL, Headphones, and the Postal Service then you’ll totally dig Synthar. They are just getting set to launch their first album next month. Give them a listen, or else.

I’ve mentioned Ohmega Watts before. If I were to pick a style that could redeem hiphop and it’s current crapiness, I would say Ohmega Watts has got it. He’s just dropped an album that I would highly reccomend. It’s great music to have at a house party or even playing in the background while you’re slapping dominoes and drinking Kool-aid with some friends.

hmmm

Does ‘people watching’ fall into the category of being judgemental? It can be quite entertaining.

While eating lunch an hour ago I saw a lady with her pant leg tucked into her sock.

It was amusing.
