Hobbies: Sports, Music, Enjoying the great outdoors.
What's on this blog? Influenced by life in Humboldt County, Hawaii, East Asia, and now Eastern Washington; these are my thoughts, interests, and amusements.
Make sure and check out my friends sites and some of my favorite music which I'm always adding to.
As I approach the age of 30, I’ve come to recognize two very specific seasons that seem to be alternating every year. The baby season and the wedding season. Sometimes there’s a little overlap but there is usually a clear majority. This year is definitely the year of the wedding. Between now and November I’ll be attending a crazy amount of weddings including, my mom’s, sister’s and several close friends.
As Jess and I close in on 4 years of wedded bliss this July, I can’t help but remember the pivotal moment in my own wife hunt.
For whatever reason Jermaine Clement (of Flight of the Conchords) is one of those people that makes me laugh even when he’s not even trying to be funny, which really isn’t that often.
Needless to say I think this movie will be hilarious, even if it does seem a little too much like Napoleon Dynamite. Check out Eagle vs. Shark.
I am typing this post from a coffee shop on my first laptop!
I have been writing a lot more the past year or so and Jess and I decided it was time to finally break down and get a laptop. I’m stoked because I”m often inspired to write in places other than my office or our closet at home (which is where our PC is …it’s a walk-in). Now I can fully utilize the mobility of this here laptop and write anywhere.
So keep an eye out. You may catch site of a wandering Foosh, laptop in hand, looking for a place of inspiration - or free WiFi.
I don’t think this has ever happened before. I’ve had 3 colds now in the last 6 weeks. Jess, Jude, and I have all been taking turns passing it around. Good times.
This is a column I wrote this last weekend for the Times-Standard’s Faith section:
Faith isn’t performance based
I’m a mediocre athlete. Except for my first year of little league baseball where I batted a .636, I’ve never been an upper tier sports star. With most sports I’ve played, the only way I was ever able to rise above the middle of the pack was because of my emotion, enthusiasm, and passion to play the game. One thing I’ve realized though is that there is something very spiritual about sports that connects with who I am. The longer I’ve walked out in my faith, the more I’ve realized that there are so many things we do that are very spiritual, but are often labeled as secular. For you it may be art, music, hiking, or hard labor, but for me it is almost any type of sport that I can get my hands on. (more…)
I was wondering where the evil mystique of this day came from?
Besides the really lame horror movies, I’ve never heard of much being associated with this day that would be considered evil. The only significant thing that’s ever happened to me on Friday the 13th was my High School Graduation.
I did a little research (which in today’s world means I went to Wikipedia) and found out a couple of famous people were born on Friday the 13th - and it makes sense.
Fidel Castro - April 13, 1926 Steve Buscemi - December 13, 1957 Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - June 13, 1986
Those people alone make me think there just might be something to this day.
Just found out (since promotion isn’t a strong point in Humboldt) that Cee Knowledge of the Digable Planets will be rocking it this Saturday. Anybody want to go?
It’s hard to believe how fast 2007 is flying by.
Jude is already over 4 months old and growing like a weed. You can always check the family blog for updates on him. We actually probably should call it the baby blog since that’s pretty much all we talk about on there.
This summer I’ll be turning the ripe old age of 28 and celebrating 4 years of wedded bliss with the most amazing girl in the world. It’s funny/sad but people that had married before us would throw out sarcastic comments about how things change the longer you’ve been married - usually in response to our affection. Almost 4 years into our marriage things couldn’t be better and…they are only getting better. Maybe I’ll share more, closer to our anniversary.
Today I went golfing with my Dad and two out of my three brothers. It’s crazy to have memories from not to long ago of running around outside with my bro’s and now to see them (us) as adults. Good times. It’s weird to think that someday I’ll be looking at my son as an adult.
This weekend is Easter so it’s always a big deal at Church. As usual we’re expecting more people than usual. It’s interesting how people who don’t attend church all year for some reason feel compelled to attend on Easter and Christmas. Why is that? Tradition maybe?
Apparently a lot of the people who read my blog (on average 70 -90 hits a week) didn’t feel like posting their thoughts on my blog entry labeled “Thinking”. It wasn’t a loaded question I was just wanting to hear different thoughts. Maybe it’s too deep, or intimidating a question to answer. I read an interesting interview in Newsweek this week. It was a discussion between Rick Warren (a Pastor) and Sam Harris (an Atheist) on their different views. It’s very interesting and will make you think at the very least about what you are living for. Check it out here.
