Contemporary Religious Music?

So I was wondering, do other religions have their own contemporary music? Specifically some of the cultish Christian groups like Christian Scientists, Mormons, and JW’s.

The Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) scene has become quite a thing in the last 20 years and in many ways has actually caught up to ‘mainstream’ music, where it used to be said that CCM was 10 years behind. But I was wondering do Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses have their own version of CCM?

After a little web searching I couldn’t come up with much. I found some mainstream groups had church goers from various religious sects like the Mormons and JW’s but none marketed as such, except for some choir groups. I wonder why this is? It could be that the nature of these groups tend to be a bit more secretive and conservative then most Christians, so there isn’t much encouragement. Maybe it’s because their history is so recent that it will be years before they catch up to the social and cultural engagement that evangelicals have embraced? Either way it must be tough being a young person within these religions. I imagine that a young Mormon or JW kid is probably a rebel if he listens to Michael W. Smith or Third Day.

  1. And even further… “Satanists” obviously have a brand of music but do you think the rebel Satanists listen to CCM to break the rules and show their hatred of their parents? Or do they do that by listening to Britney or even worse… Nickelback? Ahh!!!
