It was quite a weekend. Jess and I went western (I’m the long arm of the law) and the boyz came over for a special bonding time. Watch the video for more!

Catchin up

Many lovely events have happened in the last few days so here’s a quick update:

Thursday we left for Redding and stayed the night with the Mason family. We had some lovely manicotti and a good time catching up.

Friday morning Jess took her NCLEX test and then we checked out the legendary Sun Dial Bridge on our way out of town.

Friday night we were both feeling a bit under the weather so we stayed home and watched Batman Begins. Much better then the ones before it!

Saturday I felt like a poo head so I stayed home most of the day (after a morning meeting) and watched college football.

Sunday, feeling ever increasingly poopish I skipped church but dragged myself out of the house to have a birthday dinner with my step mom and go see my favorite contemporary blues artist Keb Mo.

Star Wars Kid

A lot of you have probably seen this…
Apparently this kid was messing around one day and recorded himself doing some Jedi moves with a golf ball retriever. Then internet madness insued and the video got a huge cult following being remade into over 100 different versions. The kid became so popular that there was even an online petition for him to get a role in a real movie. Apparently he wants no part of the fame, has left his school, and is getting counseling.

Shout Out

Several years ago when my family foundation was in turmoil I was driving to the beach at night and popped in one of the only Christian albums I had, a gospel tape by Kirk Franklin. It spoke to me like no other album has and really brought some truth into the situation I was going through.
So with all that to say I had to give a shout out to Kirk and his new CD coming out.

Chill week-end

Not a whole lot to say about this weekend. Spent it hanging with friends and chilling down in Old Town with a warm cup o’ coffee in my hand. Got some good news that one family member who had cancer is believed to not have it anymore.
Jess and I will be heading to Redding this weekend so she can take her NCLEX nursing test. We’ll be staying with some friends who left Humboldt a while back. Speaking of friends who left Humboldt blessings to Mike and Adrienne who are now sitting in a pub in Ireland and will be enjoying the emerald isle for the next few weeks.

Oasis

Many of you know that I’ve been leading the College/Career group (Oasis) here at First Covenant Church for a few years now. We had been meeting at our apartment but have outgrown it. We finally have a meeting place at the church and althought it’s not huge it’s bigger and certainly nice to have it out of our apartment. My buddy Dave put a lot of work into it along with others and we even have a M.A.M.E. (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) which plays old skool games arcade style.

Anyways you can check out the Oasis blog here or click the button below for a little video walk through of the new room.

You know you’re in Eureka when…

1. You don’t know who the mayor of Eureka is, but you’re pretty sure it’s still Nancy Flemming.
2. You remember when “The Great Razooly” was just a magician.
3. You’ve driven to McKinleyville just to see a film at Mill Creek.
4. You know the band Faith No More came from here, along with a member from Creed.

6. You pronounce Buhne St. in some weird way, which may include but is not limited to: “Booner,” “Boonie,” or “Boon.”
7. Your high school gym had a pool that didn’t work then, does work now, and is now slated for demolition.

20. You’ve taken at least one class at CR.
21. You have a drug house in your neighborhood.
22. You remember when the pepper spray case began, but can’t for the life of you state whether or not it’s over.
23. You bought your food at Food Mart.
24. You refer to the Stop & Shop Market as the Stop & Rob.
25. You drive over all 3 bridges on the bay but still refer to it as just “the Samoa Bridge.”
26. Visitors have a tough time trying to figure out how 4th street, 5th street, broadway and 101 are all the same, you can’t see what their problem is.
27. You’re at a loss for why seemingly normal teenagers from Southern California continue to come to Humboldt State to smoke pot, grow their hair out, live in trees, and never really graduate…or leave.
28. A good 90% of your friends have and most likley still smoke weed.
29. You’ve probably had or know one of the following teachers: Mr. Cahill, Mr. Carol, Mr. Chapman, Mrs. Mckenzie, Mr. Turner, or Mr. Rosco.
30. You still don’t know why people come visit Eureka to look at the trees.
31. You know that there’s a multi-million dollar library but probably havn’t been in it more than once if at all.

To kick off fall officially Jess and I made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch today and enjoyed a crisp, sunny day, wandering around looking for some of the orange giants.
